History of Sacred Heart Catholic School

History of Sacred Heart Catholic School

The first mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church was celebrated on April 11, 1911. During the week, the first church, a simple wooden structure, was used for classrooms, divided by a canvas curtain.  This multi-purpose structure served the parish for nine years, until a new church was constructed in its place. The basement of the new church was finished in 1920.  The new building was dedicated on January 2, 1922.

Finally, in 1924, a new brick school was built and served as a school for about 20 years.  This too was pulled down and replaced by another, which was dedicated in September 1946 by Bishop Eugene J. McGuinness. Ten years later, a gym was constructed as a part of the growing campus.

Sacred Heart’s campus has continued to grow with the addition of two classroom buildings, a library, and a tornado shelter.  Today, Sacred Heart serves students in grades PK4 through 8th
